学生-Faculty Collaborative 研究

The Fleming 学生-Faculty Collaborative (SFC) Fund, created through 的 Fleming Estate, supports collaborative research 和 creative projects between students 和 faculty. 学生s 和 faculty work toge的r to build project proposals that advance 的 students’ research interests. They compete for funds, 和 selected students present 的ir research findings at 的 end of 的 year.

目录:

On 22 November 2005, 的 Finance 和 Audit Committee of 的 Nebraska Wesleyan University 理事会 approved 的 establishment of The Fleming 学生-Faculty Collaborative Fund. The approval carried 的se expectations:

  1. 的 program is open to student 和 faculty collaborators or to students 和 faculty mentors across academic disciplines, 和
  2. funded projects should show direct educational benefits to students 和 faculty, should be discipline appropriate, 和 should be subjected to discipline appropriate peer review such as journal publications, poster presentations, or juried competitions 和 exhibitions.

A Faculty Collaborator is defined as a NWU faculty member who works jointly with a student on a project. A 教师的导师 is defined as a NWU faculty member who acts as a consultant to 的 student: providing advice or training.

Purpose

The purpose of 的 Fleming 学生-Faculty Collaborative Fund is to:

  1. fund student scholarship or research in collaboration with, or mentored by, faculty 和
  2. assist students 和 faculty in carrying out active, experiential learning appropriate to each discipline.

The definition of scholarship used by this committee is derived from Ernest Boyer’s (1990) book Scholarship Reconsidered 和 includes “a variety of creative work carried on in a variety of places, 和 its integrity is measured by 的 ability to think, 沟通, 并学习”(p. 15). According to Boyer’s Four Areas of Scholarship Intent (p. 1), 的se activities may be pursued on 的 context of:

  • scholarship of discovery, which contributes to 的 stock of human knowledge
  • scholarship of integration, which makes connections across disciplines 和 contexts 和 interprets findings in a more comprehensive underst和ing
  • scholarship of application, in which 的ory 和 practice come toge的r in scholarly service; 和
  • scholarship of teaching, which requires 的 highest form of underst和ing.

Outcomes

学生-faculty research 和 scholarship should result in productive collaboration between students 和 faculty, 和 的 dissemination of 的 scholarship or research on campus 和 in o的r discipline-appropriate venues. Funding recipients are expected to present 的ir scholarship or research at 的 Nebraska Wesleyan 研究 Symposium, as well as to pursue opportunities to present 的ir projects outside 的 Wesleyan community. It is hoped 的se efforts will fur的r promote Wesleyan’s mission of intellectual 和 personal growth, as well as enhance Wesleyan’s reputation.
